This is a big episode! We start with myself in an iced over car, lecturing myself into my phone and move onto a post written while resting. Lastly, I’m joined by Tyler Fudge himself—yes, that Tyler Fudge; of the FUDERATION Podcast.
I stayed up far too late last night, as the timing of my post could tell you. I didn’t feel like daylight savings time had really taken effect until tonight. It’s six o’clock and it’s practically twilight out there—I didn’t miss this at all. I’m worried about my seasonal depression coming back early this year, but I think it’s a baseless worry. I’m a different person now than I was last year, and though I don’t expect to sail through this winter as a happy, carefree boi, I think my life jacket will do a good job of keeping my head above water.
I’m watching Cowboys and Aliens as I write this, and I’m currently captivated by Olivia Wilde touching Daniel Craig’s naked chest. Sometimes I like to kick back with a movie—but it seems like lately I can’t not write. Double negatives are how you get your point across in the most direct way possible. To be honest, I think I’m going to stash this post and do a retroactive one tomorrow, to save myself a little time and effort tonight. Plus, it’s kind of like time travelling when I go to record the post. It’s weird that I have to wrestle myself into submission and away from the writing, but it’s kind of nice. I hope I can control it so it doesn’t turn into a workaholic type lifestyle, but I’d like it to get just up to that point and back off just a teensy bit, as to maximize productivity.
I wonder what will happen to me when I finish this batch of stories though—I finished my four song EP, Mom’s House, and haven’t played a note of music since. I wonder if I’ll have the headspace to make music again when this phase of writing is done. I can’t wait to find out.
So, if you’ve been near the news at all over the past two weeks, then the name Jamal Khashoggi should ring a bell. Khashoggi was a Saudi journalist who had been making waves as the editor for the Saudi Arabian newspaper, Al Watan, and was sharply critical of the crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman and King Salman. His Wikipedia page is dense and fascinating, as he moved to the states in 2017 after a lengthy career, and he started writing for the Washington Post, but Khashoggi is not what we’re going to talk about.
When the world learned of the killing of Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of Saudi Nationals in Turkey, things began to get even more tense than they already were. Throughout the investigation which played out like a he-said-they-said goose hunt, eventually, they news came from Turkey’s investigators: Khashoggi had been strangle and dismembered as soon as he stepped into the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
The world reacted with outrage and called for sanctions to be placed upon the kingdom, but one man had his sights set on Saudi Arabia and all their money—Vince McMahon. The podcast for this episode features me talking to my friend Tyler Fudge about the Crown Jewel event, the WWE’s second big show in Saudi Arabia over the weekend.
And we didn’t even to Hulk Hogan.
See you tomorrow.
